Openai says it plans to allow us to national laboratories, which is the R&D Laboratory Network of the Ministry of Energy, to the use of AI models for nuclear weapons security and other scientific projects.
For all cnbcOpenai will work with Microsoft, its main investor, to publish a model on the supercar at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This model will be a common resource for scientists from Los Alamos, Lawrence Levermor and Sandia National Labs. It will be applied through a number of research programs.
One of these programs involves nuclear defense, controversial. Openai says it will support the work of US national laboratories that focus on “reducing the risk of nuclear war and securing nuclear materials and weapons, and will provide researchers for security permits to consult on this issue.
“This is the beginning of a new era,” the company wrote in a Blog post“Where artificial intelligence will provide science, promote national security, and support US government initiatives.”
